Getting real is the platform for winning. Hiding works for neither the organization nor the employee for long. This is not an organization where people hide, like so many others. Excited expressions flicker across their faces, which might surprise you. I look at how they display values and skills such as leadership, emotional maturity, frugality, commitment to moving the company forward, innovation and fact-based communication. I review their performance on a scale of one to 10 and look at how they rank against other members of the team. I meet privately each quarter, one-on-one with my top leaders, against a backdrop of my 1978 original Star Wars movie poster.
